The Flu Is Coming For You

G.T.B.S The Flu Is Coming For You
By:Samara L.
The Flu is coming for you!! Wash your hands! Get the Flu shot, NOW! Not get stuck with Flu , it’s awful!!

Ever wonder how the Flu spreads? Well I do and here how.
You could be 6ft. Away from someone that has the Flu but, it can still spread. Little droplets of spit can get in your mouth and nose, now you have the Flu!

The Flu comes around and goes around. Especially in November thought March. Even to late May!

Flu shots, why do we get them? The vacation cause antibodies to developing your body for two weeks. That means the shot takes two weeks to get in your system. But, why do we get the Flu shot. One reason we get the shot is to be sure it protects the infection (the Flu) to get to you. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/37/Flu_Shot_Advertising.jpg

How long does the Flu last. Symptoms of the Flu can start in two to three days. But, the Flu itself can last up to a week. You can have the caught for two to three weeks.

10/21 people has never had the Flu before. People that did have the Flu they said it was awful. For Alex A., the longest time he had the Flu was three weeks . But, the funny thing is that for Gaby S., the shortest  time that she had it was two days and a caught for a week.
Anela C. said the last time she had the Flu was 6 year ago. She was 5. It didn’t spread after she had it. She hated the Flu because she could barely talk.
Lyric C. has never had the Flu before. She thinks it only last for two days and I told her that it last up to three weeks, she was so surprised. One of the way she thinks the Flu spread is by touching people, well you know that real way is. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/93/Gnome-face-sick.svg/600px-Gnome-face-sick.svg.png

Thank you for reading about the Flu. Go read all the other G.T.B.S!!!!

One day, on october,9,2016 I was ready to get on the TV and watch the debate when my friend ethan called. He wanted to go to the debate protest. His mom said it would be a great experience, and my dad said it would be great! So we picked ethan up and went to find protesters. When we found lots of people with signs, we quickly got out of the car. We immediately jumped out of the car. Then we heard yelling and big signs being held up, so we knew we were in the right place. We saw A lot of people that had signs that said:FIGHT FOR $15!, But I did not know what that meant. So, I asked my dad. He said that they think everyone should get A minimal wage of $15 and there for the 3rd party. I’m a democrat, but we cheered and protested with them. They screamed: LIBERTY AND JUSTICE and WE DON’T NEED A GOVERNMENT!!! “So that’s what they think” I thought to myself. This is Tatum bethany with what he thinks about the debate: he says that the 3rd party is kinda right but he does not want no government. They think there president should be up there.we kept on following them but there were these people beside us with this fog machine in masks and in the shadows. Ethan jumped out of the way thinking they were mass murders,But they were not. Or were they? And then we found two signs, a big one and a little one. Beckham called the big one first, but I called the small one before ethan. Then the road was blocked by lots of police and then we saw a guy in a white mask. My dad told me that he was an anonymous guy. An anonymous guy is a really smart guy that hacks into the government’s computers and makes everything be as they want it. We were walking back to the car with the group and the group split off with us, so we were alone we went back to the car and it was a great experience.
THE END!!!!
It’s Not October, It’s Socktober!
By:Angela Chen
In the month of October, something happens other than Halloween. Socktober!
Socktober has inspired students from Glenridge Elementary to create the Freeze Your Feet challenge.
How to Freeze Your Feet
The Freeze Your Feet challenge is to raise both awareness of the 600,000 homeless people and money. You can help contribute to the cause by watching the Freeze Your Feet challenge on youtube and creating your own video.”I think it’s cool, and for a good cause”,says Epley Win, a fifth grader in Glenridge Elementary.”It was legit”, agrees Tatum Bethany.”I think we raised a lot of money from the events planned in Glenridge Elementary and the Freeze Your Feet challenge,”says Angela Chen.”It’s touching how many people care about others.”
No Socks Day, Wacky Wednesday, PJ Day? It all Sounds So Fun!!
The events to fund Socktober at Glenridge Elementary are: No Socks Day, Wacky Wednesday, and PJ Day.
Socktober starts on October 24, 2016 and ends on October 31, 2016. If you are willing to give donations such as new socks, gently used socks, and money, there are donation bins in Glenridge Elementary.

A ton of people are going to be clowns for halloween, and that could scare people,P.S don't be a clown for halloween also clowns only want kids

I did this because i wanted to scare you,Beware of you see any clowns just run away.
       The Cardboard Challenge
Have you ever wondered how many things you can make out of cardboard?
Well on September 30, 2016 the 5th graders at Glenridge Elementary, answered that very question, as they did the cardboard challenge. The cardboard challenge is where you get to make whatever you want out of cardboard. The only limits are your imagination.
How it got started
The 5th graders at Glenridge watched this video to learn about the cardboard challenge. The video was called Caine's Arcade 2: From a Movie to a Movement. Thi video showed how this kid named Caine took his imagination to the next level. Caine was bored of being at his dad's workshop so he decided to make some games out of cardboard, and that's just the beginning.

The Launch System
Do think that making something out of cardboard is easy?
Well most of the 5th graders said that it was harder that they thought because they had to do the launch system. The launch system is your plan for how you are going to make what you are going to make. This is what the launch system looks like:

The Cardboard Arcade
After the 5th graders finished, it was time to show it off. So the 5th graders had the kindergarteners come up and play their game, almost all kindergarteners had smiles on their faces.
I hope that after read this you will what to do the cardboard challenge, and by doing the cardboard challenge you recycle and save the environment.
Reuben Nsemoh woke up from a Coma Speaking Fluent Spanish
By:Elsie
Reuben Nsemoh 16-year-old Sophomore woke up from 3 days in a coma speaking fluent spanish. A language he had never spoken before.
Will He Be Able to Play Again…
He is the goalie for the georgia team.
“It is the only thing I want to do for my career” he told WSB and says the sport is my life’s passion. He will be able to play but,  his coach said Reuben has to wear a helmet while moving forward as a goalie. Whenever he tried speaking english he would have a seizure.
Will He Survive?

Whenever he tried speaking english he would have a seizure. Reuben still has lots of seizures. Doctors say he will fully heal  but, his family is overwhelmed by their medical bills. They have to pay about $250,000  for medical bills. They started a GoFundMe page for Reuben and have collected more than $11,000 towards the bills. A few weeks after the accident, he started regaining his  english back. So far he is doing great.
Presidential Debate:

Imagine Donald Trump & Hillary Clinton are driving by your neighborhood! Where are they going? Probably a university close to you, to have a presidential debate. Let me focus on one specific university…. and a particular debate in Washington University in St. Louis M.O. (Wash U). The debate was at 8:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9. 2016. The format for this debate was a Town Hall, which means people in the audience could ask questions. The main reason why candidates participate in presidential debates is because they are trying to convince the people that their ideas are better for America than the other candidate’s ideas. It is a way for them to get Americans to vote for them. Presidential debates are held late in election cycle, after the political parties have nominated their candidate. They meet in a large hall, often a university or some kind of college. The topics discussed in the debate are often the most controversial issues of the time like immigrants, taxes, and the ISIS problem.

I asked Daniel Soares, a senior at Clayton High School.  who he was voting for. This is a question that everyone lately wants an answer to. He responded. “HIllary”. When I asked why, he said, “Because Hillary wants to raise taxes for the wealthy, reform paths to citizenship, and she also wants to end gun violence.” When I asked him why he is against Trump. He explained, “because his campaign spreads hate, sexism, racism, bigotry (not liking people who think differently than you), xenophobia (the fear of foreign people), and intolerance (not accepting other people or their opinions).” “How do you think the debate went at WASH U?'' I asked him. Daniel said he “I thought the debate was a waste of time.” “Why?” I asked him. He responded, “At this point, the goal of the debate is to convince undecided voters who to pick. But, many undecided voters are deciding whether or not to go to the polls, and since the debate was just a shouting match, they probably weren't convinced.’’ Daniel shared. Why do you think the debate was a shouting match? I questioned. He said, “Because they were interrupting and shouting at each other, instead of answering the audience’s questions.”

The decision of who becomes the next president is based on how Americans vote. Find information before voting on someone. Also go watch the debates! Debates are an important way to notice what Trump or Hillary say or think. If you agree with their opinions of how they will deal with the issues that face America, you may get an idea about who you will vote for! Click Here to watch the presidential debate at WASH U!!!!
THE FITBIT FAD
Is this club worth joining?
by Lucia del Pilar
You’ve probably seen people wearing a little device around their wrists, looking at it every few steps. Maybe you saw these people at the supermarket, mall, office, or even school.  The devices you saw were most likely the latest trend -- a Fitbit.  Twenty percent of 5S owns one!
I sat down with two Fitbit owners to find out more about this Fitbit fad. To learn more about Fitbits, visit fitbit.com.

I have a Fitbit Charge 2. I bought it because it met my needs perfectly: seeing texts, tracking steps, and helping me sleep well. What was the main reason you got a Fitbit?
GABY SOARES: I bought the Fitbit Alta [which tracks steps, calories burned, shows calendar alerts and texts, as well as interchangeable accessories] because I wanted to set daily goals. I feel like I’m not walking as much as I should. Also, I wanted a watch-type thing.
ANNA STOUFFER: I own the Fitbit Charge HR [which tracks heart rate, steps, calories burned, shows caller ID] . I didn’t buy it myself, actually. I recieved it as a present. I wanted one because -- well, I’m not sure why.

I love my Fitbit. Do you like yours? What do/don’t you like about it?
SOARES: Yes, I do. It tells me how much I’m doing and it gives me reminders to move. I like the fireworks when you beat your goal, and it’s very friendly. It helps me with knowing the date and time as well.
STOUFFER: Yeah, kinda. It shows me my steps. I liked how I could have competions with my friends and see who wins.

Fitbit’s accomplishments are soaring sky-high. They won runner-up at TechCrunch50 in 2008 and CES 2009 Innovation honoree and best in Health & Wellness, but one-third of Americans ditched theirs six months after buying it. Do you think Fitbits will get even more popular? Or do you think they are in decline?
SOARES: Yes! I’m not surprised that they are getting awards. People first think “Oh, they’re not good.” But they help grown-ups who want to lose weight, not be lazy and beat fitness goals. [Fitbits] will most likely get very popular by the end of the year. They are getting newer and cooler.

STOUFFER: I think they are in decline, or will be soon. Mine broke, and I don’t plan on getting a new one. There are Apple Watches and other things that are waterproof and respond to texts and can do more than the Fitbit can do.

    The big day!!!!!

The Day of the Wedding

St. Albans Old Barn Inn-It was october 8, 2016.  The day of my mom’s wedding.
Today we are all going to get ready including hair and makeup, the wedding, cocktail hour, dinner, ending the night, and quotes from the family. It was amazing day!!!!!

Geting Ready

They're here. We are all very excited. I was first to do makeup.  When I was finished with makeup I could barely recognize myself because it seemed I had so much makeup on.  Although,  it was not that much.  My sister was next and she had a lot of makeup on, even fake eye lashes. And of course my mom, Brenda, was last. When my mom was finished with her hair and makeups he looked beautiful!!!!! Lilly, mom, and I all got in are dresses. My dress and Lilly's dress were plum. My mom's dress was a fade white.

The Wedding

It was time for Lilly and I to walk down the aisle. My brother, Peter, walked Lilly and I down the stone path/aisle one at a time.

It was time for my mom to walk down the aisle with my Grandpa Steve. My mom was stunning.  She was so full of joy and was very excited.

The Cocktail Hour

My mom and Jonathon had said, “I do”, and the party started with the cocktail hour.  Guests were all eating hors d’oeuvres and drinking fancy drinks.  My mom and Jonathon were having more pictures taken.  Although I did not get to try hors d'oeuvres, my family said that they were delicious and very tasty.  During that time, everybody was sitting at table and listening to music. I was enjoying being with Janet, my mom’s friend from South Carolina.

The Dinner
Soon we were directed into the dining area to eat and enjoy ourselves.  We had salad, chicken, potatoes and vegetables.  I somehow got the kid’s plate with chicken fingers and grapes.  "I wasn’t that crazy about it at all!!"  During this time, we also watched a video on the big screen of my mom and Jonathon through the years.  I couldn’t believe what I looked like back then when Jonathon first came into our lives.

The End of the Night

Towards the end of the night everyone started to leave.  We were all a little bit down that the amazing day was over.  Although we all were very happy too that my mom was married and that Lilly and I had a new dad.

Quotes from the family about the wedding

“I felt very blessed to have my family and friends with me on my special day,"Said by my mom the bride of the wedding. "I thought it was simple, fun, and the best thing that has happened to our family," Said by Lilly the bridesmaid. " I thought it could have not gone any better than it did. It was a amazing day and could not have been better," Said by Jonathon the husband.

Presidential Election: Getting Closer

Presidential Election: Getting Closer
By: Julia

The 2016 Presidential Election is getting closer. To get people excited and involved, our friend and neighbor hosted an Election Push Party.
How to Get Involved
If you have 5 minutes, 5 hours, or 5 days, there are still so many things you can do. For example, drop food off to the campaign office, or go door to door, or phone banking. You can still help.
Let's Get Excited
Some people just think that the election is boring; you watch the debates, go to the voting polls and that's all. But, one of the goals of this party was to get people excited. They did this by a raffle: a scarf for the Presidential Inauguration and a head lamp for going door to door when it's dark out. Now, others are more excited than before. And, everybody left with a better understanding that the election is more than just voting. For example, Samantha Zeid, a Clayton High School student who volunteers at the Hillary campaign, explained the type of help that is needed. She also won the scarf and is going to the inauguration, so that is a great thing that she won.
Reasons for Hosting a Push Party
“I wanted to encourage everybody to vote, and if they have time, to get more involved in the campaign” says Deb Dubin host of the push party.
“Some of the guests are now going to be volunteers.” Deb Dubin quotes.
Background
This party was hosted on Sunday, October 16th, at Deb Dubin’s house. Most of the guests invited were friends and neighbors. State Rep Stacey Newman was a guest speaker and talked about how it's so important to get everyone to vote, and a campaign manager for Jason Kander talked about the importance of helping before the election. Now, we hope that everyone will volunteer and vote and get excited about the 2016 Presidential Election on November 8th.

Socktober At Gelridge Elementary

    Socktober At Glenridge Elementary
By: Amanda Miller
On October 17th Glenridge Elementary School started participating in Socktober created by the one and only KID PRESIDENT! Socktober is in the month of October and we are donating socks for homeless shelters that don’t have any socks. At Glenridge Mrs. Scotino’s and Mrs. Barnes’s class are helping to set up the fundraiser for our school.

How Are We Helping To Donate

We are helping to Donate by having a sock drive here at school. We also had a snack and lemonade stand this past week across from Glenridge. During the snack and lemonade stand we raised almost 125 dollars in total. We also had a fun day week, Monday was wear your socks in class day, Wednesday was wacky Wednesday and Friday is PJ day. If you wanted to participate in any of those days you would have to bring in a dollar to donate to Socktober. The last thing we did to raise awareness is we created a challenge called “The Freeze Your Feet Challenge.” It’s like the ALS ice bucket challenge but instead of dumping ice water on your head you stand in a bucket of ice cold water and say who you were nominated by and who you are going to nominate. Then you step out and post the video on social media. Also if you want to participate in the Freeze Your Feet Challenge when you post your video make sure to use the hashtag Socktober and tag whoever you nominated.

Why We Decided to Participate In Socktober

We decided to participate in Socktober because it is helping homeless shelters that don’t have socks and we wanted a way to help them. So we joined the famous KID PRESIDENT to help raise awareness for the homeless shelters. Another reason we did this is to have fun while helping people in need at the same time because we can have fun and wear socks in class, be wacky and wear PJ’s to school but still be raising money for the homeless shelters at the same exact time. Socktober was a very fun experience because we were doing it for a good cause by donating money to the homeless shelters that don’t have socks. Even though Socktober is almost over it was a very fun fundraiser because we were having fun but being very caring about the homeless shelters at the same time.

Socktober

By: Ashleigh

At Glenridge Elementary school Mrs. Scotinos 5th grade class is doing Socktober! Socktober is in the month of October where we all collect socks and winter items for homeless shelters, so that they can be warm during the winter.

How we raised the money and the socks

When we were doing this we did lots of things, we put bins around the school to collect the socks and winter clothes, we made events such as, wacky wednesday, wear socks in the classroom day, and P.J. day.  If you wanted to participate in any of these events then all you would have to do is bring in a dollar.  The last thing we did were outside of school events such as a lemonade stand, to help raise money.

                                Final days of Socktober

Overall socktober was very fun and we raised lots of winter cloths and money for the homeless shelters.  If you are interested in doing socktober then you can go to youtuber kid president’s video to learn more about socktober. (kid president was the one who started socktober)

Samsung Phones Exploding!!

Samsung phones are exploding!
By:Jacob
In early September or September 1 2016
The Galaxy Note 7s started to explode mine personally didn’t. First it wasn’t serious, a few weeks later they started to recall them to make another. So everybody turned them in a lot of people started to switch to Apple.

        Why did this happen!
The Galxy Note 7 finally came out and people were craving them about October the second model came out it was a few weeks later that those models started to explode.
They were telling people to get rid of the Galaxy Note 7 and that Samsung wasn’t making the Galxy Note 7 anymore so people got mad Samsung started giving away different items that people wanted. It was crazy they gave a deadline of about October 19.
This concludes my news story.
