Presidential Election: Getting Closer

Presidential Election: Getting Closer
By: Julia

The 2016 Presidential Election is getting closer. To get people excited and involved, our friend and neighbor hosted an Election Push Party.
How to Get Involved
If you have 5 minutes, 5 hours, or 5 days, there are still so many things you can do. For example, drop food off to the campaign office, or go door to door, or phone banking. You can still help.
Let's Get Excited
Some people just think that the election is boring; you watch the debates, go to the voting polls and that's all. But, one of the goals of this party was to get people excited. They did this by a raffle: a scarf for the Presidential Inauguration and a head lamp for going door to door when it's dark out. Now, others are more excited than before. And, everybody left with a better understanding that the election is more than just voting. For example, Samantha Zeid, a Clayton High School student who volunteers at the Hillary campaign, explained the type of help that is needed. She also won the scarf and is going to the inauguration, so that is a great thing that she won.
Reasons for Hosting a Push Party
“I wanted to encourage everybody to vote, and if they have time, to get more involved in the campaign” says Deb Dubin host of the push party.
“Some of the guests are now going to be volunteers.” Deb Dubin quotes.
Background
This party was hosted on Sunday, October 16th, at Deb Dubin’s house. Most of the guests invited were friends and neighbors. State Rep Stacey Newman was a guest speaker and talked about how it's so important to get everyone to vote, and a campaign manager for Jason Kander talked about the importance of helping before the election. Now, we hope that everyone will volunteer and vote and get excited about the 2016 Presidential Election on November 8th.

  1. I like how specific you were. Also how you didn't pick one canidate that you like. You gave both sides of the story.
